Ever since my early childhood I have always been hugely fascinated by nature. Together with this passion for the natural world, during these early ages I discovered the Sagan´s TV series´Cosmos´ that profoundly expanded my curiosity and astonishment at ´universal scales´. Pursuing the way of science, I graduated as ´licenciada en Ciencias Biológicas´ (equivalent to MSc in Biological Sciences) at the University of Buenos Aires, oriented in Molecular Genetics with an MSc thesis in Genotoxicology. At that time, my deep interest for astronomy also led me to actively participate in activities as an amateur astronomer. I also worked in science journalism (TV and Internet media), being awarded with the National Prize to Science Journalism, in 2007. That year, I started my PhD at the University of Buenos Aires where fortunately I could create my own interdisciplinary PhD topic combining my interests in different fields of science in a discipline that is known as ´Astrobiology´, at that moment an uncommon research area in my country. Around three years later, I obtained a PhD in Biological Sciences, with the first Thesis in Astrobiology in Argentina: ´UV radiation effects on microorganisms for the elaboration of habitability models and the search for simple life forms in solar and extrasolar planets´. Later, I did two postdocs in this field and I was visiting researcher at Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (University of Harvard, USA) and Institüt fur Physik (University of Graz, Austria) among other institutions.

Currently, I am a senior research scientist at the Instituto de Astronomía y Física del Espacio (Institute of Astronomy and Space Physics), CONICET – UBA, in Argentina. Since 2007, my research has been dedicated to Astrobiology and directly associated to astrophysics, performing interdisciplinary work that requires the combination of different areas of science, as biology and astrophysics, and more recently, geology.

At present, I am leading the Argentinian research Unit in Astrobiology and several national and international projects in the Astrobiology field trying to unveil different kind of questions related to the understanding of the origin, evolution and distribution of life in the universe.
